Working on a remix comp. Any thoughts on this one?

One trick I’ve been using lately to control the low end frequencies is using soothe as a dynamic eq. Dialing in frequencies from about 130 and below, and then setting attack time so it really only affects the end of the kick and releases quickly. If you take about a lot fo that sub info it really cleans up the low end. 100% of my earlier tracks…Read More

I use Fabfilter MB limiter for that trick . I really dont like these new plugins. They got so many phase issues because it basically a 48k band dynamic EQ.
Im not saying there is no need for kick. But this one is headphone mixed, and you can hear it on speakers.

I hear you on phase issues. Especially in the lows. Iβve been using shaperbox to look at the wave of my kick in real time while processing, to see what the impact of any editing is. Thatβs helped a lot to confirm the changeβs and avoid mis aligning the phase. Iβll post some screenshots when Iβm home over the weekend.

mix sounds good, as for the kick, I’ll take Piv’s word on that! Love the movement on the main bass/synth. Getting the low end to sound right has always been my biggest problem…

Not a fan of the vocal, but then I guess it wouldn’t be much of a remix if you took it out Rest sounds great to me – really like the bass and shufflly hats (???) from the get go. And, yeah could maybe take a little off the kick without losing much.
-
Made some updates to the mix. Dropped kick by a full DB, better EQ on claps, some additional compression on the mixdown, and some serious reduction on the background foley that was just creating a noisy floor. Aced the car test, I’m thinking this one is done.…Read More

Tim mentioned putting two up for the new release, howβs this proper house number sounding?

There is nothing wrong with the mix, it sounds great. even your saturation works out of the box on this one. DONE!

Potential submission for the WTMO compilation. Need any edits?

There are some problems with the kick, but I think it’s down to lower et 0.5 to 1dB.
Really nice track, the vibe is insane and dark.-
Cheers Piv, lower kick db by 1 or so? That’s my new focus, getting the bass and kick transients to sit right, rather than overwhelm. Been mixing on headphones as my wife is 34 weeks pregnant, and yeah, it’s rarely a good time for monitors π
-
Yeah just try that out first before doing anything else, and yes headphones got this tendency to do kick to loud, but it’s only a matter of you know this. Like I have said to some of the others. I lower my kick and bass by 2dB before going to bed and save, and then in the morning it is usually fine.

Great track Scott! I’m feeling it right from the get go.
I dig the vocal, it’s familiar but I can’t place it.
The synth at 1:10 is great. Fantastic ear candy throughout and the stuttery synth after the first drop that keeps building is an awesome element.
Definitely a dark, kinda warehousey vibe to this.

Hey all, it’s been a while. Really happy with how this Melodic Deep House Number has come along. Any and all thoughts are welcome.

Really great track.
A mixnote. Your kick is really heavy and eats up a lot of space in the mix. It can be turned down or as a last resort, turn the deep lows on it down with a shelf.
Other than that it sounds really good.
-
That did it. 6DB shelf, and make up the gain with smack attack to reshape the kick a little. Might do some more work to the vocals, and maybe add a piano under the main synth for color. Or, maybe she’s…Read More

Realy nice track Scott, reminds me of some of Hot Chip’s deeper stuff which is a big compliment from me. Only issue I found was there was a bit too much saturation on the instruments, seemed like you could tone it down on the bass and leads for a cleaner sound – got particularly noticable around 2:40 ish, just felt like everything could be dialed…Read More

So much better. Melodic Techno is not kick focused, its just there making the groove. π This is by far the best you have made. The saturation Ben is talking about seems right. Do you open a filter a bit that makes your saturation sound more dominant, Now I didn’t notice it on first run. Maybe because I listen on speakers. Second time I noticed…Read More

I know what you mean about headphones vs speakers. Definitely more noticeable on the cans than monitors or hifi. Will see what reducing the saturation a bit does.
-
Took 7DB shelf out of the bassline too. Reduced the saturation and filter cutoff of the main synth to open the mix up. Added a vocoder to the vocal which found it being way more in-line with what I’d originally had in mind. Thanks for the feedback, made a big difference.…Read More

Hey All, new track from me. Felt like I made some type of discoveries in the mixing process around low end compression, and balancing the mix with this track. Pretty happy with it. Any thoughts?…Read More

I really dig the percussive melody (and percussion in general). There is almost a scrapy sound in the perc melody that is very pleasing.
-
(I didn’t realize hitting enter would post my comment lol) The bassline and additional melodics have a total 80s vibe. Loving it. Great vocal chant coming in around 2min. Great track man. I’ll listen a bit closer when I have a chance but this was great first time through.

Better than the original. The mix is pretty cool, just take the kick 0.5dB. down and its good. If you want to keep the punch, then remove some of the kick from 350-550.
And yes I complain about kick all the time, even my own. But if you take your track on speakers, and begin turning the volume down, it ends up with a very dominant kick in the mix.
