  • Started working on this one over the weekend, recycling a dub sample from an old track that was consigned to the scrap heap. Bit tougher than some recent ones from me, but still at a respectable bpm. Kinda pleased with how its coming along, but let me know if anything stands…Read More

    • Only problem in that mix is the bass is too loud in the low mids. And there is no need for that loud of a top on it, I know its a huge part of the track. But they can come down a little since the rest of the mix is rather crowded in the low mids, but in a really good way. Your low mids/mids are really great mixed. So the bass feels a bit…Read More

      • Thanks Piv. Will take a look at that – I’d added some saturation to the bass to bring it to the fore, so probably overdid it in that area. Still want to do a fresh mix pass and not 100% sold on the clap / snare layer, but hopefully its heading in the right direction.

    • Nice little vocal effect around :35
Agree the bass might be overwhelming the track a little but over all this is sounding great.
This progresses nicely over the track, I really like it.
The vocal in the drop with the acid 303 is slick
I’d say this only needs minor tweaks, I know you mentioned the snare/clap. I think this suits the track myself…Read More

    • Agree with Piv on the low mids. I’ve been saturating bass for a whole to fill out that range, and found that using the same synth duplicated one octave higher does a better job. Vocal sounds a bit like Horace Andy, nice. I think a bit of call/response with the synths could help here to provide a bit more breathing room in the mix.

      • Cheers fellas, have made some updates here. Scooped out some of the bass around 200 – 200hz, changed the clap and made some arrangement and mix tweaks. Reckon its sounding quite a bit cleaner now, so pretty happy with it. Thinking it could be the opening track on my long talked about album which I’m aiming for early next year – reckon it sets the…Read More

        • A/B-ing this and the one above the mix is way more open and clean. Nicely done. Love that vocal! Maybe some harshness or clipping at the filter sweep at 1:38. Other than that, lovely.

        • V2 was kind of hidden in the comments, so I’d listened to V1 first … V2 much better, cleaner mix, sounds great. nothing stands out needing attention. Vocals are really good, great track. Well done on getting heard on bbc 6!

  • On repeat today and right up my street. Andy Bell from early 90s shoegazers Ride and Tomothy Clerkin who used to be one half of electronic chuggers The Eskimo Twins and now runs the excellent Insult to Injury label – dreamy electronic goodness.

  • Here’s my offerings for the WTMO comp, both have alredy been posted here or in Mixitecture, but I think they’d both work and I don’t have anything else near completion at the mo. Midnight Oil is a Ninja Tune inluenced hip hop thing which I’ve already submiutted to Piv, and Abberations is more of my usual uptempo wonkty acid…Read More

    • Thanks Ben i off out but will have a listen later thanks for posting mate..T

    • Both Great tracks Ben i like the vibes the midnight oil track has a nice string feel to it and the Abbreviations i like the harder edge to this the bass is great along with that acid feel nice work m8

    • Hey Ben, Love the atmosphere of Midnight Oil and those crunchy drums. Vocal sounds good too. Abberations – love that simple bass from the start! the punchy toms are cool. The drop is good, nice new elements there keeps it interesting. The last section after 5.08 is good, strips it down well for the outro. Great tracks.
