  • Started working on this one over the weekend, recycling a dub sample from an old track that was consigned to the scrap heap. Bit tougher than some recent ones from me, but still at a respectable bpm. Kinda pleased with how its coming along, but let me know if anything stands…Read More

    • Only problem in that mix is the bass is too loud in the low mids. And there is no need for that loud of a top on it, I know its a huge part of the track. But they can come down a little since the rest of the mix is rather crowded in the low mids, but in a really good way. Your low mids/mids are really great mixed. So the bass feels a bit…Read More

      • Thanks Piv. Will take a look at that – I’d added some saturation to the bass to bring it to the fore, so probably overdid it in that area. Still want to do a fresh mix pass and not 100% sold on the clap / snare layer, but hopefully its heading in the right direction.

  • So here is something I’m working on. Took a deep dive back to the late 90’s when Psytrance became it’s own thing but still much influenced by it Goa Trance Roots.

    How does it sound…Read More

    • Sounds really great, mix is tight as ever, love the sound design and builds really nicely. If I’m being really picky I’m not a massive fan of the vocal sample, feels a bit too wacky, possibly the warbling effect, but thats massively nit picking and just personal preference, musically its superb!

      • Thx, and I don’t like the voice either. But I want some sample there that is “spiritual cheesy” but in a sarcastic way. Kind of like I have done multiple times before
        Thx for listening ๐Ÿ™‚

    • V2:

Removed voice samples, and did some restructure to the arrangement, and some basic mixing. Going to leave it for a few days ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Sorry for making you making you trash the sample, though just took a quick listen and definitely prefer it without – the new gaps where the sample was feel really atmospheric now which suits the darkness of the track. Great stuff.

  • Potential submission for the WTMO compilation. Need any edits?

    • There are some problems with the kick, but I think it’s down to lower et 0.5 to 1dB.
Really nice track, the vibe is insane and dark.

      • Cheers Piv, lower kick db by 1 or so? That’s my new focus, getting the bass and kick transients to sit right, rather than overwhelm. Been mixing on headphones as my wife is 34 weeks pregnant, and yeah, it’s rarely a good time for monitors ๐Ÿ˜‰

Posted this in the wrong place. So posting again here. Any feedback will be most gratefully received. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Guys! A new demo I’ve been working on. Progressive techno, 124bpm. C minor.
I’d love to hear any comments. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Everything is there. What I’m missing is some more punch and warmth to your subs. The mix feels a bit thin, and could use some more up in your face. Your 303 classic in the background can easily get a few more dB’s

But all in all its some more mixing needed to get those warm basstones floating ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Thanks for the feedback @staticcorn. Oddly enough, this was one of the few times I got to mix in a treated room, and on some Genelec 1032s! I think you’re right though. I wonder if saturation might do the trick… I’m going to rework the track, incorporating a few things I’ve learned since then.

        • Well the 1032 do have a little much bass and are quite punchy, and many times treated rooms are more in the 200 and above, itโ€™s hard to get control below, another thing is that the desk also makes a bump at around 120-160hz,

Anyway looking forward to hear it with the new rework 🙂

  • Hi Peeps. I lost my mojo for a bit, but it seemed to come back this weekend! Here is a little bootleg remix of Nimino’s “I only smoke when I drink” (I love that track!). I’m pretty happy with the mix and structure. I’d like to ask for some general feedback. Specifically, do you think it would kick off if it got dropped in a…Read More

    • Great track and great remix! I’ve only been able to listen on PC speakers right now but I’m really enjoying this. Nice work

    • Not my type of music. But yeah I’m pretty sure it will work in the clubs. I feel like there is a bit to much knock on the kick. Besides that the mix feels really good.

    • Thanks a lot for the comments. @staticcorn When you say too much knock, in what frequency range, more or less? Since this version, I’ve put a Pro Q3 on it and boosted the lows and highs while attenuating the low mids. Then gainstaged it back to the original level. I think it sounds a bit tighter like that.

      • From what my ears tell me, I would have looked at the area around 200-240. But that is probably what you did if you say it got tighter ๐Ÿ™‚

But I’m also being picky, because as I said, the mix is really good

        • No, but picky is great!! I really appreciate this kind of feedback. ๐Ÿ™‚ When I put the Q3 on, the kick seemed more controlled. Also after listening in the car, I’m going to try the Pultec trick on the bass bus.
